Of new toy

Posted in

I've been shameless broadcasting to all about my newly acquired gizmo - iPhone.

Meant to enhance social connection between people, the device seems to be dividing them instead.

Because right now, I'm busy blogging away on my new toy and ignoring Skew who's been trying to catch my attention since forever. Instead of engaging in a real life, I'm whatsapp-ing him.

Sent from my iPhone ;)

Word of advice: Don't throw stones at people when you're in a glass house. You will look stupid. Instead, take out your mirror and take a really really close look at yourself and recall what you have (and not) done. It is very easy and tempting to draw your sword, point and criticise those around you. Worse, you go around their backs and 'talk' about them with your other friends, citing that you are 'concerned' for these people you call 'friends'.

Really?

Then why aren't you taking these 'concerns' to these 'friends' in person?

I tell you why - because you're not that concerned about their well-being. You are simply criticising on baseless grounds. You have an issue. Your holier-than-thou comments make you feel good about yourself. Behind your every sarcastic insult - which only you think is friendly harmless humour - lies a very insecure being. You attack first because you're afraid of being hurt.

I'm not sure why some like to worship your words. I think what comes out from your mouth is superfical. You'd like to think you know a lot about this world and the way of life. But you may want to know what I've observed - you don't. You tend to only see and think of matters from your selfish perspective.

I need to spell this clearly because you never seem to get what I say. Perhaps you intentionally want to ignore my real concerns about you as a friend. You see me as a little girl. Too naive. Very simple. Overly trusting. Immature. Builds superfical bonds with certain beings. You should recall this - I was the first one who put up a red alert to you when stuff happened in the past. You chose to ignore and got yourself into trouble. Now you see me as the naive one?

Don't worry. I will take my concerns to you in person. Vis-a-vis. Very soon.

Today's our 6th month of together-ness.
*****
I texted Karen, crossing my fingers hoping she'd be free for the evening to chill out with me. At a fast-food joint. I didn't feel my cough would appreciate a Dirty Lychee Martini.
*****
Archie's off to Kukup for the weekend with his friends. I had to stay back to fall sick and despite that, still work. An exhibition is setting up over the weekend at Expo.
*****
Karen took damn long to reply. Turned out she is currently in Shanghai. Busy with 'stuff'. Oops. I felt like I was interrupting. =)
*****

Many conversations ago, Archie mentioned that we should have gotten together two years ago. Many conversations later, he's still onto it. In fact, he wanted an explanation why I didn't/couldn't accept him then.

My simple reply was, "You weren't mature enough,'

He couldn't take it lying down. He probed further, asking questions and questioning my sanity (then and now). He insisted that he couldn't be any different from two years ago. But dude, if your mental level 'still the same' then and now, you have a serious problem. People should age with wisdom and grace. Which is why I find George Clooney irresistible sexy.

I don't think the two years of non-coupledom between us was a waste of time. We simply spent it building a deeper-than-supercial friendship. I elevated him from a acquaintance to a friend. A friend who gets my sarcasm. A friend who laughes at my jokes at him. A friend who... well, you already know what a friend does. =)

But it felt like the right person at the wrong time. Sounds absurd. There was a missing link between us. But deep down, I know 'this is a very nice guy and possibly...'

Many years ago, I was a younger girl who craved for some sense of maturity - womanhood. I went shopping for lingerie. But I found something else instead - a silky cream nightgown. A piece of clothing no young girl in her teens should set eyes on. I bought it anyway. But I soon learnt why it just wasn't for me. My boobs and back couldn't fill the curves of the gown. I was scrawny and looked like a kid in her mother's power suit. Unfitting.

So I chucked the gown aside and put it behind my mind. I love the gown but it just wasn't for me then. Fast forward a few years, I chanced upon the same gown (a little yellow though) during a spring clean. It was different when I put it on again. The physical *ahem* aside, I was a more womanly, more comfortable in my own skin. It wasn't simply a pretty little gown which resembles what the Sleeping Beauty could be wearing; it was more like an empowerment bestowed to a woman of what could be... (if I even make sense)

Anyway, it's like adding time to cheese. Flavour, aroma, texture don't come just after you leave a bottle of milk to sour. The environment and its natural bacteria influences the type of cheese produced. But after all the fussing, once passed the ripening stage, you'd be rewarded. Patience, my friend, is key to good stuff.

I don't think I'll ever appreciate Archie more if we had been together two years ago. The period of non-coupledom saw us grew up, roughed up, matured in many ways. Life has its funny ways of putting pieces together. The edges were sanded and polished to make the puzzles fit, if not better.

There are more to learn and wise up from. Archie and I have our differences. We talked about it. We cried about it (actually just me crying and him sighing). We sorted things out. We kissed and made up. Each time we try a little and laugh.

I'm not sure how time would wear off the you-used-to-do-this-or-that-for-me. I just hope it wouldn't wear down the I-will-love-you-forever.

Alain Delon in Purple Moon

I guess because what it comes to attitude, nobody does it better than the French. The Laissez-faire approach. A certain je ne sais quoi. Somehow, men from the past attracts me most. No frills. Just a crisp white cotton shirt, well-tailored suit and a whole lot of airy confidence around himself. Me like.

wondering how Karen is surviving her Muay Thai training camp in Pattaya.

wondering how Wanjun is coping with her heartbreak.

wondering how The Boyfriend is enjoying his morning basketball game.

wondering how The Best Friend's cells are doing in the lab.

wondering how The Mother's backache is.

wondering how the companies are deciding The Boyfriend's future.

wondering how Jessie is doing with her recent wisdom tooth extraction.

wondering how I am not going to doze for at tonight's late night movie.

wondering how I am surviving for the rest of the month.

wondering how the ice cream are doing in the freezer.

wondering how fat I am gonna be if I don't run for the next one year.

wondering why I am wondering all these when my stomach tells me to go have lunch. It's 1.47pm.

Here's how I get from my office desk to the copier machine:

Turn right, turn left, turn right, walk, turn left, walk and turn right.

And that's how I stay in shape too.

The bunch of us had a divided opinion on - Who Spattered Shit All Over The Male Toilet Cubicle in Dome at Dempsey?

It wasn't me!

Let me start from the top. We were chilling out in Dome at Dempsey Road. I had to go to the washroom. There are two cubicles and naturally I went to any one of the empty cubicle, not knowing that one of them is labelled 'Male'. Well, I only realised my mistake when Shuqin pointed it out to me. So we laughed it off - my silliness. A guy slipped past me and he entered the male cubicle. I continued chatting with Shuqin outside of the washhrooms and waited for Wanjun to return to our table.

Some time later, Joshua, who just returned from the toilet, told me that the male cubicle was full of shit. Literally, spatters of shite all over the floor and toilet seat. He asked if I'm having diahrrea. But it wasn't me! Then the group went into a frenzy discussion on who is accountable for the horrid mess in the toilet. (I didn't see but Joshua's description is quite graphical)

I nearly stood up to look for the blardy bastard who caused me my 'squeaky clean' reputation. Damnit! IT WASN'T ME!!

ten essentials

Posted in ,

Actually more than ten, but I reckon I'll share ten sets of stuff from my bag, at a time. Anyway I've never felt so boring in my life, except the time I hung out with *whispers* that guy who recently wanted to sue me... you know... for not 'appreciating' him... that guy... that one... yeah...

Anyhoo! I was rambling through my stuff after counting sheep on my bed in my hotel room over the weekend. Alone. On a Sunday. Thought I share random stuff with you - essentials in my bag. Wherever I go. Because by the time I get outta here, homo sapiens may already be extinct and Earth is conquered by two-heads green slimy aliens with sleek aluminum brushed lithium-powered flying machines. Life is so unfair.

LG - Local Pre-paid Calling Card (depending on my destination); Motorola V9 Razor - Singapore number
Usually hardly anyone calls me when I'm away. Strange but true. I get a lot of calls when I'm in Singapore. Considering I don't announce publicly to all my friends that I'd be away. (Well because let's face it - who reads my blog??) Well, probably for the best. I won't have to spend much money on overseas calls. I don't like having long conversation calls anyway. Then along comes The Boyfriend whom I so feel the need to hear from every now and then. That's when last month's bill exploded. Literally. So a local pre-paid calling card is really necessary. At least I'm not paying SG$4 per minute (or less)!! That's when my second less expensive out-dated mobile comes in. Never know.

Bottega look-alike Soft Leather Organiser
If you ever want to dig out my dirty little secrets, they're all in there. Hah! If you haven't already know, my grey matter's smaller than a pea. Not a compliment on myself, I know. But if I ever have dementia, my organisers will all come in handy. Stuff I've done with my loved ones. Thoughts I've written down. Dreams I wanna remind myself of. Oh which reminds me, I need to write down my blog's url into the organsier.

My Passport
If I ever lose this, I'm going to cry. Real hard. Because the replacement fee isn't cheap.

Casio Baby-G
Not a fervent collector of watches like The Best Friend, but I do have a few favourite watches. Two of 'em I brought along with me to China. I love this baby; the gold and black goes well with almost the whole of my wardrobe. The watch also shows the time of nearly 20 over major cities. So whenever I need to, I can switch from Singapore's time to wherever just with a press of the button.

20 Euro knock-off
A client said this twin analog-digital watch looks like 20 Euro watch from the streets of Paris. Hah! Truth is, this is only SG$20! I usually have a spare watch in my bag. Well... at least it gives me the option of switching 'style' if I don't feel comfy with the first one I wore in the morning. Nice to have an alternative when I feel like it.

8GB iPod Nano Chromatic
Considering I spend much time abroad, the iPod makes sense. Some would ask, "Why do you need 8GB?" Their reasoning is that we always tend to listen that few favourite songs and leave the rest out. Well yeah... but what if there is that one song which I so badly want to listen to and it's not there? When stress gets the better of me, I would plug in my iPod, blast some music and go for a good long walk. Well, I don't smoke so coffee and music are my substitute for a smoke break.

Evelyn & Crabtree Cocoa Butter Protective Lip Balm SPF8; MAC LipGloss Power Supply; Evelyn & Crabtree Rose Hand Therapy; Neutrogena Lip Moistiriser SPF15
I travel a lot to places with slightly harsh weather conditions. Replenishment throughout the day is important, especially frequently exposed areas - hands, face, lips. Dry chaffed fingers - not cool. Dry peeling lips - not cool. Pale lips - not cool. The job can be shitty, but the project manager doesn't have to look shitty.

ELLE Beauty Pouches
I don't bring my Agnes B Voyage beauty pouch when I go overseas. Too precious. Roughing it out with me ain't easy. The two pouches above from ELLE makes good traveling companions. The pink one contains my rosary, lip balms and hand cream. The black one holds my thumbdrive, ear piece, spare passport photos, Sony Memory Stick Reader and etc. I attached a mini LED light to each of the pouches. The lights come in very handy during power failure and when I can't see a single shit inside of my black bags. Taking too long to find my iPod in my bag can be darn frustrating.

Wet Wipes; Vichy Facial Mist Spray
I think wet wipe is one of mankind's smartest innovation. I haven't used a dry tissue for a long long time. After devouring the chicken wings, I can skip washing my hands; the wet wipes will do the job. Tollyjoy's by far my favourite brand. Good and inexpensive. Not just an obscure brand from ABC store. If the Jurlique Rosewater Facial Mist isn't bottled in glass, I'd have packed it in my luggage. Vichy's not bad. But chances of me using it to have some tongue mositure is higher. Not that it isn't good enough for my face, but when one is desperate for water, anything goes.

I was sharing with SQ about a local chocolatier whose truffles have been receiving wonderful reviews (hint: I want those truffles!)

SQ: any person with the name julius = 75% gay

SQ: + make chocolates

SQ: = 98.7% gay

Me: you make ice cream.

'Nuff said.

Dear Mister God,

I was a good girl last night. I stayed back in office till 11pm to act busy clear some urgent work matters. Just as my boss walked towards my table (to view some files from my PC), the Windows Explorer popped up on its own. And to my horror(!) of horrors(!!), all THIRTY-THREE windows displayed the Facebook home page! We looked on in bewilderment as the windows filled up the entire desktop like rabbits multiplying without contraceptives.

YOU SABO ME ISSIT?????????

It's been a roller-coaster ride for the last couple of weeks. Juggling time and energy between family, friends, work and lover is hell. I mean it: HELL. When friends used to envy my singleton status, I think I know what they were going through: HELL. (There is always something wrong with anything right. Can't please the entire world but I try to be Superwoman anyway)

Then the presence of flowers really makes my day. I couldn't help but linger on a little longer around the Cymbidiums while The Mother admire the peonies and bonsai. The Lunar New Year is nigh and the empty field in front of the flower store is dotted with pots of lovely colourful plants. The Mother knows I'm so in love with Cymbidiums (frangipani remains top spot though) and nudged me to get a pot.
I had my reservations; unlike The Mother, I have only butter fingers, not green ones. But heck, I can always look up Google, no?

So on her account, the latest addition of plant was placed along-side with The Mother's preccciiiooouuusss collection of __________________________________ (insert bontany plants' names). Well, if I can't keep a dog, a non-talking non-shitting non-tempermental living thing sounds like a good idea. =)

I can't wait to watch the rest of the bulbs flower, wilt and flower again next season. Fertilisers and LUCK are much needed.

Hang out with your best friend frequently enough to have your menstruation cycles in line with each other's. In this case, at least both of you can go through hell together. Best friends forever!

P.S. I'm not kidding.
