balek kampung!

In our bid to 'keep the romance alive', Archie and I decided to spent one weekend away from the city and its dusty air. Except... with The Mother and Brother tagging along. Hah!

Actually it was a promise made to The Mother to bring her to the 'last kampung' in Singapore. Lorong Buangkok was much talked about recently. Its status as the 'last kampung' in Singapore has garnered much interest, especially the babyboomer generation who has seen and lived through the glory days (kampung style). The Mother was really looking forward to the visit. She grew up in Potong Pasir. Kampung girl, full of the kampung spirit. So a nearly 10minute drive later, we were transported back in time...

The place isn't as big as we thought. Simple winding paths leading to each house. No green vegetation in sight, but lotsa flowers filling the place with pleasant beauty. We spotted a few youngsters walking around, each hugging a plastic file. Guess they were studying the 'last kampung' for school project purposes eh?

A Malay household was preparing for a wedding. The Mother was so excited that she wanted to join in! But alas, a young Malay boy (gatekeeper I say) said the wedding was 'Invite Only'. It was a shame for The Mother. But I, am not that thick-skinned...

Me like me cowboy straw hat. =)

I had a hard time adjusting to the smell and mozzies. Typical city girl, I know. It's great removing oneself from the hectic city once a while. No denying. Getting in touch with simplier stuff in life, can be quite refreshing. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the visit very very much (mozzies and all) but hanging out with The Mother and Archie together was really fun. I'm just glad The Mother and Archie get along so well. The last thing I want is being sandwiched between two persons who hate each other.

We further explored Serangoon North Ave 2 and its pet shops galore. I was so tempted to get a pair of love birds and fighting fish. By the way, I'm really the kind of girl who wants to rear fighting fishes instead of goldfish. I used to catch tadpoles from the school pond... oh wait, maybe I'm quite a kampung girl hur?
