I've been on a brief blogging hiatus. Mainly because I've been mastering the art of 'doing nothing' over the long weekend when I took a day off on Friday. Instead being glued to my laptop or out roaming the streets, I was glued to my sofa, spending quality time with the DVDs I borrowed from Kat. When we chatted non-stop about the films we loved, I learnt that she has a good collection of classic movies which are pretty obscure to the younger crowd. You know, those days when Robert De Niro had nice oily black hair, Al Pacino can swoon any female moving object with his doe-eye boyish charms, Dustin Hoffman had better hair cut, and when every wise and old Hollywood actor you see these days still hadn't developed sagging skin, wrinkled eyes and grey goatees.
On the top of my 'To Borrow' list is The Godfather. The trilogy does not disappoint. In fact, it's way more impactful than I expected it to be. I'm lousy with words. You should really watch the trilogy to understand why its quotes and scenes became pop culture staple and opened doors for later films of gangs, mafia, mobsters whatsoever name you can think of.Al Pacino and Robert De Niro held spectacular performances in the film. The former played the son while the latter played the father in his younger days. Though they never shared the same scene (I repeat: you absolutely hafta watch to know why), their on-screen performances were always on the comparison chart ever since The Godfather set a long red carpet for their budding careers. Godfathers of the filming industry in that era, I say (along with Gene Hackman, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman)
Almost 20 years later, Al and Robert worked together for the first time on Heat. Though they shared only two scenes together, the chemistry was already somewhat 'explosive'. Except I thought it was a little blanketed because that much potential between the two actors was limited to those few minutes.
And I thought that was end of it! No more showdown between these two big shots! Until I saw this trailer...
Righteous Kill opens this September!! Two veteran cops find themselves against one mysterious serial killer - not something new but definitely one to watch out for especially a lead cast so strong.
