katong (slurp) laksa

Posted in , ,

I haven't been to Katong nor have I tasted the very famous Katong Laksa. (Yes Shangqian, you can 'ROFL' at me) So when I learnt that Yann drove his vehicle today, I couldn't help but wanted to take advantage of that. Yann warned me about the type of vehicle he was driving, but for the sake of Katong Laksa I gamely said, "Never mind. I'm in jeans!"

I don't regret. I just wished his pick-up had air con and a buckable seat belt that could save my life!

Anyhoo, I reached East Coast road in one piece. Of the three well-known stalls, I wanted to try 328 Katong Laksa first. At $4.50, a medium-size laksa sounds just right for me.

After the first spoonful of
Laksa gravy, Yann and I fell into a pregnant silence. Or rather, I didn't want to make any small talk; the savoury Laksa gravy and chewy noodles were keeping my mouth busy. I would give it 4.5/5. The missing 0.5 for the lack of spiciness in the gravy. Then again this is Peranakan-style Laksa. So the spiciness should be slightly mellow, instead of in-your-face chili-hot.

Along East Coast Road, it was a architecture
fiesta for me. So swell is one landed property that I couldn't stop my jaws dropping and immediately fall in love with it.

Notice the roof top?

Huge round light fittings hung from the attic's cavity! I've always dreamt of glass ceiling which allows the moonlight beam into the room and yellow bulbs shining through rattan lampshades. Wow... who stays here and man, I need that designer's number.

was this the one near esso petrol station?

i had some last month and omg it was so so so good. i like how they cut up the noodles and all you need is a spoon. clever.

Hmm... quite near the petrol station. Actually it's opposite another well-known laksa stall. Just a small narrow street between them.
