i spent my weekend standing chopping slicing sweating

I've been barred from whiling my time in town where dangerous liaisons lurk. Especially at Ted Baker, River Island, Prada and wherever the noxious money-burning aura is strong.

Since there's no where to go, and the squash courts are FULLY BOOKED for the past three weeks, I decided to stay home last weekend to make a mess out of The Mother's beloved kitchen.

I chanced upon Carr's Crackers at Carrefour. Crackers with cracked pepper got me salivating. Then an idea stuck me.

With Brie cheese and mushroom ham, I stacked them up on the cracker and created bite-sized yummies to whet up a growling morning stomach. Though I tried to ham up the presentation by rolling the ham, the bugger just won't stay in place. And so I gave up and left it the way it is.

Lunch saw me cleaning grit off the wild mushrooms, slicing 'em thinly, preparing all the ingredients I need and going through the recipe again and again like a life-saving chant. Man, it really is hard work keeping my two feet still and bending my skinny spine over the kitchen counter for (perpetually) the next two hours.

The aroma of butter and cheese melting while juicing their way into the mushrooms, is simply irresistible. I have long confirmed that I should not be working in any kitchens. I have the tendency to want to pop the food into my mouth before it gets its chance to the serving plate. Even raw food appeals to my insatiable appetite. Not so good news.

I couldn't avoid my most dreaded routine of cooking: the onion and garlic duo. I don't tear much but with my fingers smelling of garlic and onion - not sexy!

Although the soup didn't quite turn out the way it is supposed to (clear soup base instead of creamy), those homo sapiens still sang praises of it. The pin-head shitake was chewy like shark's fin and the chopped portobello tasted like crab meat. Hah! So I guess the soup turned out wrong but in a right way.

The rest of the evening saw me battling with the fried rice which turned out perfectly well. Just the way I wanted it - loads of chinese sausages and topped with sliced omelette with diced tomato. I certainly deserved a chilled drink and so, I made myself an iced chocolate drink. Sweet.

This one never leaves my sight

I can't wait for this coming weekend. I have short pasta and sweet Japanese curry in mind. =)
