I always like to tell friends that my office is nestled along Kreta Ayer Road, which is next to the very infamous historical red light district - Keong Saik Road. Wayyyyy before Geylang came into the picture. In one month's time, I'll be officially relocated to the 'auntie brothel street'...

Me: our new office is 3 keong siak road
Me: i'm officially working at the 'brothel street'

Friend @ Ann Siang: haha

But before you get strange ideas about Keong Saik, it's not as sleazy as Geylang or Joo Chiat. Both sides of the road are flanked with boutique hotels, up-class French restaurant (Nicholas), quaint bistro cafes (Whatever, 25degreecelsuis), handicraft workshop, bookstores and very good eateries (roasted duck noodles, Cantonese congee and line juice!). Brothels only come alive after 8pm and the girls (or aunties) don't stand along the street like lost aliens trying to tout business. You would only recognise the brothels by large hanging lighted signs with big red number written on it. Whatever happens behind the doors, happens behind closed doors; the entrance is usually shrouded by foldable rattan partitions with 'Gong Xi Fa Cai' paper dolls struck on it (for good luck what else). But shine daylight on the street, it is as decent as any other streets in Chinatown. I can't wait to move into our new office. Only pictures would tell the story. So soon, I will share with you the reason of my excitement.

P.S. If you are really up for some adventure in Chinatown after dark, Duxton Road is the place to go. You have to find out for yourself to know what I mean.
